When someone searches "dentist near me", "best cafe in Indore" or "CA in Gurgaon", Google shows a map with three businesses at the top — the Local Pack. Those three listings get the majority of clicks and calls. Local SEO is how you get there.

Step 1: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the foundation. Make sure you:

  • Choose the most accurate primary category and relevant secondary ones.
  • Add your exact address, service areas, phone number and website.
  • Set correct business hours, including holiday hours.
  • Write a helpful description that naturally includes your services and city.
  • Upload real photos of your premises, team and work — and keep adding new ones.
  • List your products or services with short descriptions.

Step 2: Keep your NAP consistent

NAP stands for Name, Address and Phone number. Google cross-checks this information across your website, social profiles and directories like Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART and local listings. Inconsistencies — an old phone number or a different spelling of your business name — reduce trust.

Step 3: Build a steady stream of genuine reviews

Reviews influence both rankings and customer decisions. Ask every happy customer, make it easy with a direct review link or QR code, and reply to every review — positive or negative — professionally.

Never buy fake reviews. Google actively removes them and can suspend your profile. Genuine reviews, consistently earned, always win.

Step 4: Optimise your website for local search

  • Add your city and service keywords to title tags, H1s and content naturally.
  • Embed a Google Map and display your full address on the contact page.
  • Add LocalBusiness schema markup so search engines clearly understand your details.
  • Create dedicated pages for each location or area you serve, with unique content.
  • Make sure your site loads fast on mobile — most local searches happen on phones.

Step 5: Earn local links and mentions

Links from local news sites, chambers of commerce, event sponsorships, college associations and industry bodies signal that you're a trusted part of the local community.

Step 6: Post updates and answer questions

Use GBP posts to share offers, events and news. Monitor the Questions & Answers section and add common questions yourself with helpful answers.

Measuring local SEO success

Track calls, direction requests and website clicks in your GBP insights, plus rankings for your key "service + city" keywords. Review these monthly to see what's working.
